Who is Southwell Racecourse & Golf Club?
Set the in the town of Southwell near Newark and one of only six all-weather racecourse tracks in the UK, Southwell has its own unique charm and character, making it one of the premier sporting venues in the East Midlands. After previously owning the UK’s only fibresand surface All-Weather track, Southwell switched over to a Tapeta surface as of 2021. With racing on both All-Weather and Turf tracks taking place throughout the year, we are one of the country's busiest racecourses.
Not only are we Horseracing at Southwell we are also home to Southwell Golf Club. The course has two contrasting nine holes. The Front 9 sits within Southwell Racecourse and is characterised by a large number of water hazards. The 7th hole, a 138 yards par 3 with an island green is Southwell’s signature hole.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Retail and Cellars Supervisor to join our catering and events team!
In this role, you’ll play a key part in driving the success of our catering operation — helping us grow sustainably by improving service, boosting revenue, and finding smart ways to save costs. You’ll also be a big part of creating great experiences for our guests across Southwell Racecourse and the Golf Club.
Please note: Due to the nature of our business, working hours will often include late nights, early mornings, weekends, and bank holidays.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our Retail and Cellars Supervisor, you’ll:
- Support the Catering Team in delivering and putting into action the catering strategy for Southwell Racecourse and Golf Club.
- Oversee all retail operations — including food, drink, bar, and concession outlets — from pre-event setup and live operation to post-event clean-down.
- Get creative with ideas to drive spend per head, track performance, and suggest new ways to increase sales.
- Work closely with our Sales Executives to plan, monitor, and update catering details for both racing and non-racing events.
- Lead high-volume operations, ensuring every event runs smoothly and that key client needs are met with care and attention.
- Take ownership of the ARC EPOS system, helping to manage and improve its use across the catering team.
- Support with labour planning and cost control across events, hospitality, and retail operations.
- Provide hands-on support to the Golf Club as part of the wider catering offer.
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings both experience and enthusiasm! Ideally, you’ll have:
- GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) or above in Maths and English
- Strong computer literacy
- Level 3 Food Safety Qualification
- A Personal Licence
- Proven experience in a similar supervisory or operational role
- A good understanding of food and beverage service and products
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A track record of driving commercial success and spotting new opportunities
- Experience in implementing change and delivering great customer service
- Confidence in business and strategic planning
- Solid IT and business systems knowledge
- This role requires a reasonable level of physical fitness, as it involves regular heavy lifting and manual handling.
