We’re hiring a Deputy Head Grounds Person to join the passionate team keeping Dunstall Park Greyhound in top racing condition all year round!

About the role

Working closely with the Head Grounds Person, you’ll play a key role in leading and supporting the grounds team, ensuring every aspect of the racecourse from the track, kennels, and all external areas are safe, well-maintained, and presented to the highest standards for every race meeting and event.

This is a hands-on position that combines leadership, teamwork, and technical skill in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Grounds Person in planning and delivering maintenance programmes for the track and grounds.
  • Prepare and maintain the racing surface before and during race meetings using tractors, attachments, and specialist equipment.
  • Manage track preparation during adverse weather to ensure racing can continue safely.
  • Maintain grass and non-running areas to a high standard, ensuring exceptional presentation for race days and events.
  • Conduct regular checks on track and racing equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of essential materials such as sand, salt, and diesel.
  • Promote safe working practices in line with company Health & Safety policies.
  • Ensure full compliance with GBGB regulations and maintain the highest standards of greyhound welfare.
  • Support and lead the grounds team, demonstrating initiative, teamwork, and clear communication across departments.

About you

  • Proven experience in grounds or turf management (ideally in racing, sports, or large venue environments).
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and duties.
  • Confident communicator and effective team player.
  • Full clean driving licence.
