About the role:

In recent years there has been a huge leap in the availability of data regarding the annual fixture list and race programming. Therefore, there is a now a requirement to provide comprehensive statistical analysis which will influence decisions to help make changes and improvements to the Company’s strategy. This role will be key to the Racing Department reporting into the Head of Group Racing (Fixtures & Funding) and working closely with with other members of the department.

Key responsibilities for the role will include

  • Support the Head of Group Racing - Fixtures and Funding with industry Groups (such as the BHA Racing Committee)
  • Assist the Group in liaison with industry bodies (HBLB/ROA/NTF/PJA/TBA/NARS)
  • Liaise with the PR and Comms Department when required to maintain the strongest possible links with a broad selection of journalists, broadcasters and other media representatives in connection with the Racecourses racing product
  • Support Racing Department with data in relation to; betting, races run, fixture list and funding
  • Assist with administration of all funding related elements (e.g. monitoring prize money) and race programming process
  • Provide sponsors and partnerships with accurate races run data to assist with race titles
  • Liaise with Sky Sports Racing and BHA to ensure race times benefit domestic and international customers
  • Support TRP with any fixture related requests
  • Develop and implement data collections systems and other strategies that optimise statistical efficiency and data quality
  • Identify, analyse and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Work closely to support the Racing Department and Head of Insight/Data across Racing, Prizemoney, Betting and Media through:
  • Report on Prize money race types in a betting value index
  • Develop strategies which support Race type value and Executive contribution decision making
  • Report on industry and ARC runners analysis
  • Report on Prizemoney and Sponsorship value index
  • Report on Streaming data in a Betting value index
  • Disseminate and report on betting data from Bookmakers to drive LBO and International media rights value

About you…

  • You must be able to demonstrate strong problem solving and mathematical skills
  • Be highly self-motivated and thrive in a challenging environment, within a small team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate data effectively
  • You'll be flexible and responsive to tight and moving deadlines and workloads that can vary substantially according to the time of year and the horse racing programme. Taking pride in your work, completing your work to a high standard of accuracy and to agreed deadlines is a given.
  • You will be able to pick up large data sets and manipulate using relevant tools/systems and will have strong Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Tableau and a background in SQL would be desirable
  • An understanding and appreciation of racing and betting is desirable.
